Go Wei Go

I was going to comment on her play from last week at the John Deere Classic but of course I didn't because I really don't keep up with this blog. Oh for those of you who don't know who I'm talking about, she is Michelle Wei, a 15-year old girl playing in a men's tournament. According to the article, she earned her right to play at the U.S. Amateur Public Links, so all who say she doesn't belong need to just stop. So she hasn't made the cut in the two men's events but she's fifteen, come on. She doesn't always play with the men, so how can anyone expect her to really compete. Maybe she should stop the women's play, go through the Q course and play with the men.

People griped about Annika Sorenstam playing in a men's tournament and even tried to say she is the greatest golfer. The critics say Annika cannot possible be the greatest because she hasn't beaten the likes of Vijay, Ernie or Tiger. Well, maybe if you let her play continually with the men, she will eventually make the cut and possible beat some of these guys. The same thing goes for Michelle Wei. Let her play. Stop complaining that she belongs on the women's tour because if she ever wants a shot at being the greatest, she has to play the men. It's stupid, but it has to be done. Annika has better numbers when compared to Tiger but Annika cannot be the greatest because everything she has achieved was against women not men.

Oh, it would be great though if Michelle wins the event. Apparently, the winner is traditionally invited to the Masters. Ol' Hootie would be in the spotlight again since his club doesn't allow women to play on his course, which is where the Masters is held. Hmm, we may even get to see Martha Burke again.
